This shoot was dreamed up by Lisa Villella, a photographer that I met at our local Rising Tide Society meeting for the Detroit chapter. She had an idea for an outdoor, boho, pastel, dreamy styled shoot, and I was happy to be asked on-board. I came up with an idea to make a translucent vellum booklet, and placed a real wood veneer invitation inside. I wrapped the 'booklet' with ivory twine, and sealed with a turquoise wax seal. (The same wax seal stamp I used on my own wedding invitations back in 2006!) I wanted to really bring out the pastel vibe, and since I'm in love with color (and rainbow sherbet) I decided on a lavender mailing envelope, and a rose pink inner envelope made of true handmade paper. The RSVP is a light watercolor peach, and I used a romantic scratchy script for the type. Once I got to see the photos from the day, and how everyone came together so well, I was amazed!

From Love, Inc. Magazine: “A blend of concrete, wood and mixed metals star in today’s styled shoot, which was inspired by the very city in which it takes place — Detroit. In the heart of Motor City, local creatives brought this colorful and eclectic wedding inspiration shoot together at The Villages Bier & Weingarten, a beloved spot where friends gather over beer and wine on sunny weekends. The venue gives off charming backyard vibes, which is a perfect fit for an intimate affair celebrating two dashing grooms. To contrast against some of the industrial elements, bright beautiful florals were brought in, and for a unique ceremony backdrop, baby's breath was painted pink and blue and fastened to a circular arch.
We're particularly loving the bright hued tablescape with a crushed velvet tablecloth topped with wooden chargers and concrete vessels that are filled with bright blooms. And for a bit of sweetness, cotton candy added a fun element to the top of a textured pastel wedding cake, which the newlyweds enjoyed with tasty macarons and sips of champagne. Captured by Inner Circle Photography, this fun and colorful styled shoot is sure brightening our day!”

From Storyboard Weddings:
“As a Black woman-owned event design business, it was important to Ryan Abney Event Design to curate a styled shoot that both highlighted BIPOC love, which is sadly underrepresented in the wedding media, as well as highlight the beauty of a micro wedding. This elegant coastal wedding inspiration included mostly female small business owners. The selected location was the iconic Roostertail located on the Detroit River showcasing panoramic waterfront views and a downtown skyline. The venue recently launched micro wedding packages and RA Event Design was ready to style a unique micro-wedding at the venue with all social distancing measures and Covid protocols in place.”

Miranda Crace from Spoke Events and a talented team of creatives beautifully showcased this unique and attainable option for couples in the Detroit area and beyond. The cozy and inviting atmosphere of the historic Corktown Home featured gorgeous brick walls and loads of old city charm. The wedding invitation suite featured a delicate floral outline drawing on textured handmade paper with deckled edges. The envelope liner featured the same floral pattern. I chose a deep burgundy guest envelope and rich navy blue RSVP envelope. Calligraphy Quill added beautiful copper calligraphy for the mailing address, and I poured a copper wax seal onsite as a finishing touch.
A wedding vibe like no other. Sparkly disco balls, frosted white florals, holographic dinnerware, acrylic iridescent invitation suite, and subtle yet glamorously chic brides. This wedding shoot was organized by Aimee from Modernly Events and shot by Kerby Lou Photography. The icy florals were provided by Detroit Design Co. and the acrylic menu and acrylic invitation suite were designed by me, Cordial Punch Press.
